A personal statement should be unique to the student and capture the attention of the admissions tutor. That’s why, while we provide example statements from successful Oxford applicants, we encourage every student to tell their own story about their mathematical journey. Once a draft has been written by the student, we provide detailed feedback on its structure and content. This may include suggesting extension material for the student to explore further or recommending additional reading to demonstrate a willingness to delve deeper into a topic discussed in the statement. We understand what admissions tutors are looking for. Unlike other UK universities, Oxbridge places far less emphasis on extracurricular activities. Instead, demonstrating academic interest is of the utmost priority.
